HERE’S A STORY

I grew up in London. It was a great experience. Growing up in a London that funded theatre for kids was a fantastic one.

My primary school was a piece of drama all by itself, a teaching convent in Marylebone: convent on one side, primary school on the other. A rooftop playground with a fence you most certainly were not allowed to climb.

Being right next to London’s West End meant free tickets for Sadler’s Wells Ballet, the theatre or art workshops because creativity was valued as being educational, and taking whole classes of kids to see a show was considered an investment. Leaving a child behind on the Tube, with a St. Vincent’s nun racing up the platform in hot pursuit, was added excitement for a kid.

THE POINT?

Most of us love experiences like theatre or fun animation. We save up for festivals, buy tickets as gifts, and share exciting new acts with friends.

Data from 2022 shows that UK creative industries contributed £124 billion to the economy. So are our theatres well-funded, our creatives fully employed, and our talented kids given help to get started?

Nope.

And that’s why we need creative solutions for hard times.
